A Word from the President.

It is a great pleasure for us to share with you the first annual report of the activities of ASAF: Action de Soutien à l’Empowerment des Femmes (Action to Support the Empowerment of Girls). It is also an opportunity for us to thank all these women and men who, in one way or another, have tirelessly accompanied us since 2020 and supported us in the 2023 financial year. To all of you, we say THANK YOU.

Since its creation in January 2020, ASAF has been engaged in fundraising through campaigns and collection of contributions from its members. These funds allowed the association to launch its first actions in the interest of vulnerable girls and women in the Uvira territory. Initially, we submitted an application for registration to the Provincial Division of Justice of South Kivu and obtained provisional operating authorisation. Then I got involved at the local level, in collaboration with the urban Office of Gender, Family and Children, and signed a cooperation protocol to work for the promotion of women and the community. Finally, ASAF implemented its first activities with its funds. It began with the launch of a series of exchange workshops with different layers on the conditions of girls and women in the Kabindula district. We also ran awareness campaigns for girls and women on their fundamental rights, inspired by our values at ASAF. We successfully brought together these women into village savings and credit associations and provided training on how to structure income-generating activities.

With the aim of improving girls' access to quality education, ASAF provided flood victims with school supplies and organised awareness campaigns on menstrual hygiene for these girls. Cases of rape of minor girls were reported through our focal points in Kiliba and Katongo and the association provided emergency aid to the victims.
