Empowering women
in South Kivu, DR Congo.
About ASAF
ASAF is an organization under Congolese law working in the fields of education, health, entrepreneurship, protection and emergencies. Created in 2020 as part of a program to support the education of girls and women from poor families, ASAF quickly developed to become an association promoting the empowerment of women.
Initially three female teachers (Faila Mohamed Fanny, RIZIKI Maseme Francine and ASSIA Omari Dada) noticed a trend towards early marriages among young girls who had dropped out of school and decided to set up a program to support their empowerment. Created in January 2020, ASAF: Action de Soutien à l’Autonomisation des Femmes (Action to Support the Empowerment of Women) is a women's association under Congolese law based in Uvira, South Kivu in DR Congo. It is registered at the South Kivu Provincial Justice Division at No. JUST 112/DP-SKV/CA6969/2023 of March 25, 2023 and is authorized to operate by the Governor's order No. 23/187/GPSK from July 17, 2023.
