Prevention of gender-based violence

During 2023, we documented 3 cases of rape of minors in the Kiliba Sucrerie group, including that of an 11 year old girl. These 3 cases were notified and referred to the proper authorities for holistic care. The association carried out 3 awareness sessions for the community of Kiliba Sucrerie on prevention and protection against gender-based violence and rape. Note that several other cases are still not documented following amicable arrangements between the families of the victims and their perpetrators. Other cases are documented but are not yet transferred to proper authorities for trial.

Positive masculinity

We also launched a project focused on positive masculinity as part of our fight against gender-based violence in schools. Two schools in the city of Uvira were the focus of this project. The objective is to make students (girls and boys) and their teachers more aware of the stereotypes linked to violent behaviour as well as to promote positive role modelling. We organised 4 awareness sessions encouraging open and constructive dialogue between students and teaching staff.
